For quite a long time, the Korean peninsula has been a battleground, both in terms of ideologies as well as actual warfare. It has also been the site for the global powers to play their pull and push game. Evers since the cold war, it seems like the communist and socialist powers sided with North Korea, while the capitalist powers sides with South Korea. North Korea however, has been of much interest because it has played significant roles in geopolitics. Its policy of isolation and self-reliance has been quite an interesting one in a world where globalization is at its earnest. Of much focus on matters geopolitics, is the country’s nuclear program under the leadership and authority of Kim Jong Un. The death of Kim will have a serious impact on the geopolitics of the globe in general.
North Korea lies between two nations that are quite close allies to the U.S. These are South Korea as well as Japan. It also borders two other powers in China and Russia. Such a strategic location gives the country with the much needed say when it comes to geopolitics. In their leader, Kim Jong Un, the nation has become masterminds at the game of geopolitics.

It will shift the geopolitical landscape as the major players around the Korean peninsula will grapple with however will succeed him. Since its founding, North Korea has always been ruled as hereditary dictatorship where power was transferred from Kim II Sung to the son Kim Jong IIwith Kim Jong Un taking over after the death of Kim Jong II. Such takeovers are usually telegraphed to the public before the death of the leader on the throne. However, with the case of Kim Jong Un, his children (three children) are not adults yet. Even if any of them had been groomed or prepared for future leadership, it would be prudent for the state officials to incorporate a regent rule to act in interim capacity. But, such a setup has never occurred in the country (Steinbuch, 2020).
Notably, it is prudent to comprehend that for all the practical purposes, the country is a monarch through that has never been official. It is also possible for the nation to follow a model characterized by some form of collective leadership. In such a scenario, the sister of Kim Jong Un with the help of the close aides such as Kim Yo Jong are likely to be involved. Through such a setup, the body instituted may serve until the apparent heir to Kim Jong Un is considered old and prepared to take over the ...
