Types of Budgets
Through a budget, the government is able to make critical investments in both domestic and security priorities. There are several types of budgets that the government may use depending on its objectives. These budgets include:
* Line-item budget. In this type of budget, items are based on their cost centers. It shows a comparison between the past financial data and the current estimates (Drury, 2013).
* Lump sum budget. Allocations are made to items with no specific purpose or scope.
* Zero-based budget. All the expenses are justified for each new period. Every function in the organization in analyzed and gets allocated depending on its needs and costs (Zwain & Reed, 2014)
* Performance budget. It shows a comparison between inputs of resources and outputs for each item (Kaplan, & Atkinson, 2015).
* Program budget. It provides a detailed information on the costs of every item or programme that is within the budget. It is commonly used by governments.
