The cyber infrastructure has various dependencies similar to physical infrastructure, and approaches to managing the infrastructure are applicable in the cyber environment (McCarthy, 2005). Since there are interdependencies in the cyber infrastructure, the top management or administration ought to coordinate activities to mitigate risks and threats, while availing resources where there are needed. Hence, reducing risks require joint decision making, but the personnel tasked with managing cyber infrastructure need to protect information at all times as there are risks of data theft and loss.
To secure cyber infrastructure it is necessary to identify appropriate policies and procedures to protect computers and the data system. For instance, staff ought not to store crucial information on computers that connect to the internet openly (Homeland Security, 2005).
