Hurricane Katrina has had the most significant effect upon the homeland security preparation. This is because, when the Katrina struck, the country was unprepared for massive natural disasters. There were many mistakes made during response to victims and also lack of required resources to deal with a storm of that magnitude (LeVines, 2013). After the storm, major changes in preparing for natural disasters have been implemented to counter the failures that occurred during Katrina. The leadership of responding was faulty, relief supplies were insufficient, evaluation procedures failed, and even the government did not respond on time (ABC News, 2005). Owing to these failures, Hurricane Katrina changed the homeland security strategies for responding to natural disaster. Over the years, many changes in regards to responding and initiating measures of responding to natural disasters such as hurricanes have been implemented in subsequent disasters.
The efforts of the CIA and the FBI can be reconciled in a bid to create greater measures of security. Being able to co-operative is important because despite the CIA being able to collect intelligent, they cannot do without the ability of the FBI to extract information or interrogate suspected criminals.
