Deforestation in Amazon involves illegal cutting down of trees by people in water catchment areas for charcoal or farming on the parcel of land. This poses great threat to the ecosystem, and is a risk factor for desertification. Chunks of land are cleared to pave war for cultivation in many parts of Amazon. It is therefore paramount to track the vice to minimize the rate at which global warming is destroying the ecosystem.
Types of Data Collected in Tracking Deforestation
There are two types of data collected which include primary data collected using satellites and secondary data. Ancillary data refers to the accurate earth fact taken physically by an individual on ground cover group, topographic atlases, airborne pictures of the divide and its environment. This reference data is collected using terrestrial locating system (Tollefson, 2015).
On the other hand, satellite statistics are collected using digital devices which give instant data when a tree is cut down. The system sends email to the data center to alert the security officers on of any deforestation taking place (Nelson &Holben, 1986).
Types of Analyses
Descriptive analysis involves entering information on a geographical information system which is an electronic device that automatically analyzes the data. Satellite data can be captured on the system to locate area under deforestation(Le Tourneau, 2016).
An empirical spatial statistical inquiry is another method used. It is across-sectional analysis of data collected in a given period of time. It enables one to investigate the trend in forest degradation in different parts of Brazil (PirBavaghar, 2016).
Qualitative relative analysis of satellite data is useful in investigating the extent of vegetation clearance in the forests. This gives the coverage of trees cut down or vegetation destroyed by fire in different parts of Amazon (Buche&Siewert, 2015).
