GEOGRAPHY PAPER 4
Reflection on the Use of Public Spaces
The rapid urbanization in many cities and towns has resulted in a ramification of consequences. One such social transformation and development includes the emergence of prostitution as a complex product of the interplay of socio-economic factors. The interactions between poverty, unemployment, drug abuse, and addiction and societal pressures explain the increasing prevalence of sex trade in urban areas. The use of public spaces has been an issue of concern: some have being denied rights, descent housing, discriminated against and prevented from accessing essential services like water, and proper environmental management services. This paper is a reflection on the use of public space, especially regarding women and feministic issues, that are accelerated by a constellation of factors, in the context of prostitution in Kiev , Ukraine, and in the women feminism movement in Argentina.
Feminist movements are raising serious concerns about inequality in Argentina. Gender disparities constitute an issue of contestation in Argentina, as many women feel that they are being oppressed economically, socially, and politically. The thorny issues include home choices, abortion laws, and sexual abuse.
Kiev in Ukraine is an example of urbanization that has primarily contributed to the emergence of prostitution. Some cities in Ukraine remained global destinations for sex tourism Ukrainian women have a reputation as beautiful, and perceived as cheap sex dolls, by sexual pimps and international tourists. The sex trade is illegal in Ukraine, but already the issue is no longer a significant concern, as the government paints the nation as the center of international tourist destinations. Besides, some sections of government authorities support the legalization of prostitution.
The two videos (ones involving prostitution in Kiev and feminism movement issues in Argentina) contrast with various videos in Phantom Zone 4db. The Phantom Zone 4db indicates the sophistication of the physical needs of towns where there are overarching concerns on infrastructure, spiraling slums, and dwindling resources, among others. Thus, its physical space use is about physical items. The other two videos revolve around the use of public space in terms of respect for human rights in a just and equitable manner. The videos are quite comprehensive, and it covers the majority of the content in the semester.
In many cities, challenges are no longer secrets. The city residents, on many occasions, have staged various protests against corruption, filthy and stinking environments, prostitution, and lack of adequate essential services. An environmental threat is one of the biggest challenges to urbanization. The booming population is being linked to strained infrastructure and accompanied by unpredictable climate change, present almost universal trade to most cities. Waste disposal is a key challenge in many urban areas: some of these cities do not have proper waste disposal management systems in place, which result in toxic accumulation of wastes in a residential environment, water sources and food sources. Undesirable waste management has not...
