Gentrification has been cited as having an influence in urban development. Gentrification contributes to an influx of more prosperous residents and businesses that promote urban growth. The economic value of a neighborhood goes up as more businesses and resources trickle in. Urban growth emergences because of things such as increase in improved infrastructural systems such as roads, malls, grocery stores, and modern transport among others.
The aspect of gentrification I am presenting at RiverWorks site in Buffalo is converting old buildings into thriving business hubs. To achieve this, RiverWorks site old buildings can be transformed into restaurants, bars, and hotels. The transformation would also include improvement of walking degraded walking paths, the public access docks, and accommodate some natural improvement along the shoreline. Gentrification through these modern transformations would help promote the face and image of RiverWorks site (Fink, 2017). Another proposal is to make RiverWorks site an entertainment venue. Some of the entrainment improvements would include building ice rinks, large sports centers, and indoor and outdoor concert venues that can host up to 1,500 people, and create space for trade shows. The concert venue can be transformed to host events such corporate events, sports tournaments, concerts, festivals, weddings, convections, fundraiser events, and art demonstrations among others. These entertainment venues and facilities would complement the restaurants, hotels, and bars (Epstein, 2016).
The reason I chose these aspects of gentrification on Buffalo RiverWorks is because it could change the face of the area. The area has old and rundown buildings that can be improved to make the region more appealing to modern development and outlook (Epstein, 2016). Another reason is to help attract people from all parts of the country to the region. The idea is to make the region both a domestic and foreign tourist attraction. This would bring business to Buffalo RiverWorks to make it a thriving business hub. In the same breath, the region would enjoy a multicultural appeal as people stream in from all walks of life.
