The Spiral of Silence Theory is a political science and mass communication theory that attempts to explain why people tend to conceal their opinions or preference when they belong to the minority. When it comes to animal rights, there is no other organization more outspoken than People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, or more popularly known as PETA. They have published numerous researches and position papers explaining that fur farming is not only unethical, it is also an environmental hazard. According to a PETA factsheet, 85% of the fur industry`s produce come from animals bred primarily for fur harvesting. These animals lead short and painful lives those used for breeding are kept 5 to 6 years in small cages while those marked for harvesting only have 6 months to 1 year to live.
