Enslavement and Forced Labour
The story My family’s slave gives a deep reflection of the various types of enslavement that various groups of people go through based on gender, race, nationality and social class. The slave working for an American family was called Eudocia Pulido, but the person giving the story called her Lola. Although the incident happened in the past, it gives an intrusion of how individuals get intimidated at their workplaces. In most cases, women and girls are the most vulnerable populations in the issue of enslavement and forced labor (Isis International, 2019). The demographic goes through various hardships in society that result in the vulnerability settling for any type of employment to cater for their basic needs. Such incidents happen in modern society, whereby various people are enslaved in foreign countries. Most people remain in the entanglement of slavery and forced labor for long periods before realization and rescue.
As a young boy, Alex saw everything Lola went through; from the lie, she was given by the Lieutenant who offered her the job. Lola was miserable before receiving the job offer and the situation left her without an alternative. At the time of absorption, Lola was a very young girl, coming from an extremely poor family that depended on farming as a source of income and catering of all needs in the setting (Kitchener, 2018). Lola was upset y he idea of her family to marry her off to a man twice and her age she desperately needed an escape from the action. This action reveals the mistreat of young girls in society. Although some communities have eradication the issue of marrying off young girls in modern society, some natives are still stuck in the weird traditions.
