Use the Internet to research one (1) developing nation of your choice. Your research should include an examination of the effects that war and peace have on the distribution of foreign aid, as well as the material covered by the Webtext and lectures in Weeks 1 through 3.
Write a three to four (3-4) page research paper in which you:
Assess the positive and negative effects that peace and war, respectively, have on the distribution of foreign aid in the developing country that you have selected. Support your response with concrete examples of each of the results that you have cited.
Analyze the specific actions that the leadership of the selected country has taken, through the use of its foreign aid from donor nations and international lending institutions, to relieve the severe problems caused by warfare.
Discuss whether or not the extension of foreign aid has successfully reduced poverty and the incidence of warfare in the selected country. Support your response with examples.

In the past, foreign aid was given to developing or countries in need of assistance after the World War II in a bid to rebuild their economies that were destroyed by the war. According to Glassman (2011), in the early 1950s, the United States, as well as the Soviet Union began giving aid to reinforce military capabilities of their allies. After the end of the Cold War, the idea of foreign aid was promoted as a way of ensuring economic growth and to enhance the general welfare of the public. One developing country that receives foreign aid is Afghanistan. Afghanistan is a country that has endured significant warfare and multiple conflicts that resulted in regional clashes and interconnected zones of instability (Voa, 2011). While researching the effects of foreign aid on peace and war in Afghanistan, it becomes evident it had both positive and negative effects.
While foreign aid in Afghanistan had negative effects, it also has some positive effects. One way the foreign aid benefits Afghanistan is through the promotion of people in this war-torn country (Koskinas, 2014). Ideally, in the midst of war, US foreign aid has helped create a process of peace building between the two countries. For example, since the US troops were sent to Afghanistan after the September 11 attacks, millions of people many of whom are civilians died in the ensuing crisis. However, the foreign aid from the US has begun the peace building process in the midst of these conflicts (Koskinas, 2014). The foreign aid that comes from the US has been used to improve the economy, repair the destruction, infrastructure, education, and even health though the impact has been minimal (Koskinas, 2014). Another way that foreign aid has been beneficial for Afghanistan is through promotion of fairness. According to Koskinas (2014), foreign aid to Afghanistan has helped redistribute the gains from trade. This means that it has created a more favorable environment for trade with other countries despite widespread belief that Afghanistan is a hostile country that is determined to cause chaos in the West (Koskinas, 2014). Basically, through foreign aid from countries such as the US, Afghanistan has been able to salvage some form of relationship with these countries reducing the animosity and hostility many countries from the West have against it (Koskinas, 2014).
Despite these advantages, foreign aid to Afghanistan has resulted in many negative effects that promote conflict as opposed to peace. One way that foreign aid to Afghanistan has resulted in warfare is because of corruption (Samim, 2016). Money from foreign countries like the US goes to Afghanistan but often not through the government. This has weakened the ability of the government to control its resources and in the process this has fueled corruption.
