Philadelphia Movie Review
Philadelphia is an American legal drama movie released in 1993. Jonathan Demme directed this film, and Ron Nyswaner wrote its script. Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks) is the plaintiff who alleges discrimination against acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and sexuality (Demme, 1993). Despite Beckett being an experienced lawyer in a Philadelphia law firm, he is fired for what he believes to be caused by his AIDS status. As such, Beckett looks for a lawyer to represent him so that he can sue his employer for improper job termination and discrimination against AIDS.
Beckett proved that the defendant, a Philadelphia law firm, had “notice” of his protected status by asserting that his lesion on the forehead was visible. Despite the plaintiff concealing his AIDS status and sexuality, he could no longer hide some symptoms of AIDS.
