Deviance refers to a behavior that violates the cultural or social norms where the majority of people perceive it as unacceptable. For instance, prostitution is deviant behavior. In particular, society encourages people to get married and start a family. In marriages, sexual intercourse between the partners is acceptable. However, prostitution is the act of engaging in sexual activity with a person for payment. One of the reasons why it is a deviant behavior is because it is ungodly. Besides, there exists no religion that allows its members to become prostitutes. Second, it erodes a community’s cultural beliefs and can foster other sins, such as incest and fornication. Third, prostitution destroys well-established families since it enhances adultery. Notably, married men or women leave their wives or husbands and engage in sexual activities with prostitutes due to sexual desires. Consequently, prostitution is one of the deviant behaviors, which is against social and cultural norms.
