Deviant behaviors are a common aspect in the sociological field. It is defined as acting contrary to social norms (Ollendick et al., 2018). Different theories justify defiant behaviors; however, sociological concepts are considered effective for explanations. Deviant behaviors are also identified to violate social norms specifically. A society is based on beliefs and norms and, when jeopardized, leads to different injustices. Deviant behaviors are not favorable since they affect the overall image of society. Pop culture and reality TV shows are the major sources of deviant behaviors. The paper addresses a defiant behavior by Joseph Jimenez in a theater.
Deviant Behavior
The deviant behavior was shooting in public space. Shooting is a deviant behavior since it violates social norms and alters social justice. The action occurred after a 20-year-old Jimenez was engaged in the shooting leaving two people dead (Corona Movie, 2021). It was also a detrimental aspect since it occurred in a social place with unique social norms. The act was portrayed as a crime but had heavily come out as deviant behavior since the perpetrator was well known to the fans. He is also known as an active actor. Actors are always considered a group of individuals with reasonable acts, and engaging in such activity indicated that he was out of order and did not consider the social norms guiding the profession. Therefore, it is justifiable that the crime committed was a typical deviant behavior that violated the law and social norms, warranting legal punishment and prosecution.
