In the movie Reefer Madness, the plot emphasizes that Marijuana is the leading cause of deviant behavior in society. The movie describes the negative effects to marijuana that includes outrageous outburst of violence, emotional disturbances and sudden loss of thought processes.
According to the Differential Association theory, criminal behavior is learned. It further suggest that deviant behaviors can be shaped through social interactions in a person’s environment with friends and significant others. In one part of the movie, William “Bill” Harper, a high school student, was influenced by Blanche, his love affair, to try one of the reefers or marijuana cigarette.
