Introduction
Situational awareness refers to being aware of the surrounding that one is‚ and being able to recognize or identify dangerous situations and any other possible threats or other dangerous situations (Yin, et. al., 2012). In most cases‚ it is more of an individual’s mindset than just merely a hard skill (Vieweg, 2012). The best practice for creating an environment of situational awareness for public will be discussed in this paper. The public response and cooperation will be discussed‚ and the weaknesses and strengths of the plans too.
The Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) is an event and resource availability data where new statuses of unit and incidents are captured (Wukich, 2016). The other is the AVL‚ (Automatic Vehicle Location) ‚ which delivers information relevant to an individual’s or public location‚ and it is instrumental. The GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is another mode which processes and executes data in a context that is spatial (Flammini & Franceschetti, 2013). The data results in actionable and closely related information when planning is included.
The RMS (Records Management System) serves to provide incident data that is historical. This includes the locations of emergency medical responses‚ location of fires and crimes‚ and where to get immediate help (Flammini & Franceschetti, 2013). There is need for additional information in all the public safety dispatchers. This is to enhance their effectiveness.. The surveillance videos‚ and event information basically from the public reports and news media are the examples (Omand & Miller, 2012).
