The society has always been structured around beliefs and cultures. The different ways of life have categorized individuals and offered hem roles in society with some considered oppressional. Over the years, society has ceased to be secluded and different cultures have merged due to factors such as migration, war, trade, slavery, and colonialism. Due to this, interactions between different societies have brought up comparisons between them ranging from appearance, wealth and intellectuality. This competition is unavoidable but some individuals have developed systems of oppression to gain an advantage over other societies and cultures. The primary oppression systems include racism, classism, sexism, and heterosexism. Women have been oppressed by these systems since the beginning of time and they have started voicing their dissatisfaction with such societal systems. This essay focuses on women how from different women groups and social movements viewed and wrote about these social systems during their time.
Racism is the prejudice directed at an individual of a different race due to their different beliefs and appearance. This system is considered oppression because the individual inflicting it is of the idea that their race is superior and entitled to the opportunities society has to offer. This means that the affected race gets discriminated in their attempt to get the opportunities that create an oppressed system. For women, they get faced with different types of oppressions and women of color are more disadvantaged in comparison to other women. Black women, Puerto Rican, and third world women represent a group that can be referred to as colonized are fighting against the oppression from the society, capitalism and by their own me. Women in third world countries have always been courted for cheap labor while black women are used to filling up lower positions in factories, hospitals, and officesCITATION Dar \l 1033 (Wanzer, 2016) Wages is also an issue for women of color as black and Puerto Rican women are paid lower wages compared to white women therefore regarded in lower social class among women. The woman is already oppressed enough and discrimination against women of color only makes it harder for them to demand equality and utilize certain opportunities in society.
