Thank you, Ashley I do agree that substance abuse not only affects an individual but the whole family. In some families, substance abuse is deeply embedded in family life. Since family, members are the main determinants of individual health (Lewis, Dana & Blevins, 2014). Family system approach helps families be aware of their roles and how to communicate in a healthy way. A family therapy is ideal because it helps move the family system from the dysfunctional status to a congruent status (Lewis, Dana & Blevins, 2014).

The family is a big factor for those struggling with substance abuse disorder. Many families need to be involved in therapy because they are not aware of the destructive behavior they portray like giving money. Family members need to attend therapy sessions to understand the science of addiction and break the addiction cycle (Moore, 2016).
