Carrying out surveys is considered an integral part of collecting valuable data across a given population. Surveys are important as they are a means of getting vital information that will be crucial in making any improvements. This paper will look at the advantages and the disadvantages of surveys and the use of mixed methods in data collection (Almalki, 2016).
According to Elizabeth, some of the benefits she listed for carrying out online surveys is that they are efficient and are often low on the cost injected in carrying them out. Online Surveys also allow for data to be entered directly hence there is no room for errors (Sue & Ritter, 2012). James on the other end argues out that surveys come in handy when one is pressed for time he also adds on that the surveys are environmentally friendly which is a plus in conservation of our environment. According to Audrey Online surveys offer an easy way of gathering extensive data and creating room for a quicker response while at the same time creating scope for participation of a wider group (Sheperis, Young & Daniels, 2017).
Some of the disadvantages of online survey from Elizabeth’s research is that the coverage of the study might get biased due to its reliance on specific software that might be limited. The surveys also rely on an individual’s attitude which might not be the same for everyone in the study population (Sheperis, Young, & Daniels, 2017). James argues out that for online surveys one needs access to a computer, some people can’t access them. Hence they suffer the disadvantage of not participating. Another disadvantage listed by Audrey is that online surveys allow paricipants to leave the surveys uncompleted. (Sue & Ritter, 2012).
