Brain evolution is of interest to researchers who view the brain size expansion as being crucial to the evolution of human beings. The brain size of humans has tripled and increased substantially as humans from having a similar size to those of chimps millions years ago. The Brain size has evolved from Australopithecines to Homo erectus, Homo sapiens and the anatomically modern humans. To highlight the relevance of brain size expansion being the prefrontal areas and this shows that behavioral a capacities have been important to the decision making process. There are diverse explanations on human evolution focusing on selective pressures and adaptation. This is a review on the Evolution of anatomically modern brain size.
Evolution in the brain anatomy can be understood through comparison of data since it is the brain is not fossilized. The cranial capacity is then important to indicate changes in the human brain especially the different regions, as this is suggestive of evolution. There are two main explanations for evolution either through adaptive change resulting from selection or non-adaptive changes that are associated with genetic drift. Adaptation is the most convincing explanation for growth in human brain compared to other biological characteristics. The patterns of adaptation have occurred gradually over time, since reproductive benefits would be associated with the adaptive evolutional changes for subsequent populations.
The changes in the gene pool explain the evolution of organisms as the humans share a common hereditary unit that is passed to subsequent generations. The duplication of genes associated with the cerebral cortex is common to humans compar...
