Part II – Writing

1. State your position on the topic you selected for Assignment 1.1.
2. Identify (3) three premises (reasons) from the Procon.org website that support your position and explain why you selected these specific reasons.
3. Explain your answers to the “believing” questions about the three (3) premises opposing your position from the Procon.org website.
4. Examine at least two (2) types of biases that you likely experienced as you evaluated the premises for and against your position.
5. Discuss the effects of your own enculturation or group identification that may have influenced your biases.

The issue of gun violence is a hot topic that elicits different reactions from various people. There are proponents and opponents of gun control regulations. Whichever side one is on, we must agree that the senseless deaths that result from the fact that guns are in the hands of the wrong people should be dealing with. I support the people calling for strict gun control regulations because I believe that it can limit the possibility of guns getting into the wrong hands and hence there would be less senseless deaths.
In procon.org (2018), the three significant pros that support my view include: the second amendment never gives individuals an unlimited right to own guns; with more gun control laws, there would be reduced gun-related deaths; and guns are not normally used in self-defense.
The second amendment never gives individuals unlimited right to own guns
The view is helpful in the sense that it opens the eyes to the fact that even though the second amendment gives people the own right guns, that right is limited. Therefore, it opens eyes to the fact that the laws should not allow those that do not qualify to own guns to do so. Because I believe in this view, I notice that we need laws that would stop guns getting into the hands of the wrong people while ensuring that those who deserve to have these guns are not prevented from doing so. The idea is true because guns have gotten into the hands of people that do not deserve them; some even mentally challenged. The laws require that such individuals are not allowed to own guns, and it only fits to have tight controls in place to ensure that they never do.
With more gun control laws, there would be reduced gun-related deaths
This view is important because it alludes to the fact that the many gun-related deaths are as a result of limited gun controls. It helps bring to attention the need to ensure effective gun controls so that we can limit deaths related to gun violence. The view would help in understanding the fact that a lot needs to be done in order to prevent gun violence related deaths. Believing this view would help me appreciate the magnitude of the problem of lacking effecting gun control laws. It would also help me aware of the need to work harder ...
