Introduction
According to Aristotle, individuals are morally responsible for our omissions, just as they are responsible for their commissions. Omissions are the activities that individuals fail to do, whereas, commissions refer to the activities that humans actually perform.
Aristotle states that the actions of human beings are not the primary bearers of moral evaluation, but people are. This means that morally excellent actions are a manifestation of a rigid and settled attitude of the mind especially one that favors one alternative over others which is within the agent, which in this case stands for a person who has a moral responsibility for an action. This is manifested in circumstances in which the agent has knowledge and, therefore, chooses to act for its own sake. For an action to be right, it must be in accordance with the situation.
A person makes a choice among others so as to attain an end. The rational choice is usually a result of a deliberation process. This involves one planning something carefully and intentionally based on the things that the person has in their powers, and they can do. When one is in the deliberation process, they have a desired end in mind that they want to attain and, therefore, they reason reversibly from the desired end to the things or something that they can do. Making a choice is the act of selecting one alternative means of ending up at the desired end among many other alternative means. In the case of killing someone or deliberately letting the person die, either choice taken leads to the same end, that is, where the person dies.
