What responsibilities does an employer have to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for employees?
Good working conditions at the place of work results in maximum production, hence an elevation in the profit of a given company or organization. As such, it is the duty of employers to provide a conducive environment for their employees who are the mainstream of production. Employers can ensure a healthy environment through a number of ways. First, they have to ensure that their employees have safety tools and equipment as well as proper maintenance of the tools and equipment (OSHA, 2013). Frequent provision of free medical examination, as well as training on how to deal with accidents in the workplace, is also paramount (OSHA, 2013). Furthermore, employers have to use posters or label potential hazards, provide safety training in the simplest language and vocabulary that employers can understand and avoid discrimination based on gender, physical form or race. Finally, employers need to examine the workplace condition to ensure they meet the stipulated safety standards and also keep records of workplace-related injury or illness for reference (OSHA, 2013).
