9/11 and Immigration

After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 (9/11), immigrants and immigration became a focal point of public debate. As a result of the attacks, public policymakers developed stricter immigration policies and practices, which linked immigrants and immigration to terrorism. This resulted in the perception that immigrants, both legal and illegal, might be responsible for future terror attacks.

The government has gone ahead to initiate new border security and other initiatives for law enforcement. It has also heightened visa controls and the screening of international travelers and immigrants.
Obviously, the attacks had some impact on the American towards the Muslim community living in the country. Muslims in America have for long been viewed as a conservative group because of their unwillingness to divert from their religion and cultures.
