When answering, one should maintain clarity and unambiguity. Mary not only maintained these two attributes but also made sure that she tackled everything that the question asked of her. Her choice of assertiveness as a way to deal with group members with dominant personalities is indeed debatable because this quality paints the picture of pushy and aggressive leaders. However, according to Edinger (2012), assertive leaders are effective in enhancing teamwork and in maintaining sanity among the members.
Carra Ward
From her response, one can tell that Carra is an extrovert and hence her obvious problem with introverts. Bregman (2010) said that “Effective feedback is clear and specific. Silence is ambiguous and generic.â€Β This is indeed true and regarding Carra’s response, it was confusing when the silent member of the group withdrew to his former self. Bregman explains that people often retire to their timidities which is similar to Carra’s team member did. Reaching out to the person is indeed the best way to make such members active and one gathers that Carra and the rest of the members maintained communication beyond the school year period.
Kateri
Kateri’s response answers the question but as direct and straightforward as Mary’s and Carra’s. It is clear that her problem is with aggressive group members. She also mentions the fact that these members’ often makes other members insecure with their thoughts and opinions. According to Minter (2013), aggressive members impact many members and it is important when the entire group faces the issue together. As per Kateri’s response, the group handled the issue by speaking out and confronting the elephant in the room, and it was effective.
