5-1 Students Post Name Institution Date Jacquie: I agree that Co-occurring disorders can be difficult to treat because of the effect of the trauma. Trauma causes fear and irritability, if combined with symptoms of SUD, makes it difficult to work with such clients (Roberts et al, 2015). PTSD is an anxiety disorder in extreme traumatic occurrence therefore, treatment must be slow and a plan for safety and trust should be in place (CSAT, 2005). Psychological interventions are effective because such intervention bring about changes in symptoms and functioning (Roberts et al, 2015). Counselors need to assist clients to develop skills that will increase their ability to manage the traumatic memories and cravings associated with the substance use (Roberts et al, 2015). Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an effect with those suffering from SUD and PTSD. CBT's will help clients to review his belief systems and ideas regarding the substance use (CSAT, 2005). David Grove: I also agree with David that the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) are the best treatment options because patients with co-occurring disorder present multiple symptoms (Morrison, Berenz & Coffey, 2014).
