The exact origin of man has long been a contentious debate among scientists and religious believers. It is one of the most difficult puzzle humans have faced – and touches on most central beliefs about man and the world. Naturally, different theories such as religion and scientific knowledge have been used to answer questions about the origins of life, universe, and man. While science knowledge considers humans to have originated from the primate family of hominids, the religion describes that God created all living things including human beings in a single strategic week (Abubakar Sadiq, 2017). Without any doubt, human beings exist today because God the creator of humankind and the universe has always and continues to provide and sustain them ever since their creation.
Human beings are the special creature that God created – and resembles his image. God created man from the dust of the earth and tasked him with the responsibility of co-creation and made them stewards to subdue and take care of all the other creatures (NPR, 2020). In Genesis 1: 26, God said “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”. It is for this reason, the knowledge and intelligence of man have surpassed any other living organism in the universe. This can be illustrated with the enormous transformation of the universe through continuous invention and innovation.
Today, human beings especially Christians believe they resemble the image of God and have a special place in God’s creation. This debunks the evolutionary theories citing how a man would have evolved and still resemble the image of their creator. Besides, new research shows that human beings originated from a single couple (Adam and Eve) that lived 200,000 years ago – contrary to scientific theories that suggest that humans descended from two people.
