World View Chart Writing Assignment
Using the information collected for the weekly World View Chart Assignment, this paper focuses on the category of nature of God for the present assignment. The paper discusses how the nature of God relates various religions and to my own work or social experience. The nature of God category was selected primarily because the conceptions of God or of the supreme deity in various faiths differ and could extend to different abstraction levels. Moreover, every religion in the world recognizes an ultimate reality which is unchanging and perpetual, which may be defined as a god (Valea, 2010). As such, this category was selected in order to gain an understanding of how different faiths describe the nature of their God.
Islam: people of the Islamic faith reject the Christian divinity of Jesus and the doctrine of the Trinity. Muslims believe that God is One, the Absolute, and the Eternal. Moreover, Muslims hold the belief that there is no one like God and that He is beyond all comprehension or equal and does not look like any of his creations in any manner. The Koran describes God by particular attributes or names for instance Al-Rahim, which means the Most Merciful and Al-Rahman, which means Most Compassionate (Sonsino, 2011). God is seen as a personal God who will respond whenever an individual in distress or need calls Him. As mentioned in the Koran, God’s divine name is Allah, without gender or plural (Valea, 2010).
Christianity: Christians believe that God exists in Trinity; that is, a single being who exists, everlastingly and at the same time, as a perichoresis of 3 hypostases or persons: the Holy Spirit, the Son, and the Father. Some scholars illustrate this notion by pointing out that the Holy Spirit, the Son, and the Father are one yet different just as water, steam and ice are one but distinctly dissimilar from eac...
