The first section of the reading details the incidences that happened before, during, and after a great flood. The narration is a Babylonian legend about Uta-Napishtim and describes his life concerning the deluge. The reading explains his (Uta-Napishtim) encounter with gods and how he used a ship to survive the storm. The second section of the reading explains the seven tablets of creation, which is the story of gods Ansar and Kisar and their mother, Tiamat. The story then leads to the creation of man to inhabit the earth and the alteration of the gods’ plans by Marduk to maintain peace. The last section of the text is titled Rig Veda and contains hymns that detail the beliefs of the religion concerning different deities and myths. The psalms cover gods like Agni, Purusa, and the creation story and are labeled numerically.
