Islamophobia means that there is hatred of or bias against the Islam community or Muslim people especially facilitated by a political movement. A number of cases occurred between the month of May and June 2017 revealing the presence of Islamophobia in the United States (Calabria, 2017). . The board on American-Islam relations reported a rise in the number of anti-Muslim hate crimes by ninety-one percent half the year 2017 as compared to similar duration in 2016. The Bridge Initiative in Georgetown University defines Islamophobia as “the prejudice towards or discrimination against Muslims due to their religion or perceived religious, national, or ethnic identity associated with Islam” (Calabria, 2017). Islamophobia is a catastrophic reality during our time, and it is not only about hate and isolation cases of some people but also a well-planned and well-supported event.
The catholic society needs to remain concerned with regard to issues that revolve around the discrimination against some individuals. This is because such instances may result in violence, which is against the teachings of Catholic. Just like any other form of bigotry and discrimination, Islamophobia is a violation of the basic beliefs of the catholic doctrine. The American-Islam council highlighted the common moral values between the Muslims and Christians for instance fasting, praying and thanksgiving. There is no consistency with Christian teachings in a situation where Christians discriminate Muslims. Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic Church used various writings to caution faithful Catholics against Islamophobia.
