The "day of the Lord" based on Amos 5: 18-20 refers a definite, although not yet determined, point of time in the future, as well as the events that will take place in the future when God will punish the wicked and justice will triumph. The term is also identified in repeatedly in the 9 prophetic passages including Isa. 13:6-13; Amos 5:18-20; Joel 1:15; 2:1; 3:4; 4:14; Obad. 15; Zeph. 1:17-18 and Mal. 3:23.
The prominent component that is revealed in the day of the Yahweh is doom, underlined by other distinctive motifs, such as wailing and darkness. Another component as asserted in Amos (5:18-20) is that Day of Yahweh is near. Amos (5:18-20) presents a polemic narration against those who desire the Day of the Lord. From the style used in Amos 5:18 that states woe unto you who long for the day of the Lord (KJV), it is evident that that the concept of the day of the Lord may have been established before the prophets started to function or even the author wrote the prophetic passages.
