Abortion has been one of the most controversial issues of all time. It has been the subject of debate and discussion for quite a while. Much of the debate has centered on when life actually begins. Some countries have made the step to legalize abortion, resulting in protests from anti-abortion activists. There are various perspectives on how opponents and proponents of abortion view the whole thing. From a Christian perspective, there is a focus on the sacredness and sanctity of life in the entire picture.
According to Christianity, life is sacred. It is a special gift granted to human beings by God. The church has for a long time viewed the issue of abortion as a complete revolt against God’s will (Peters, 2018). It is like an open display of disrespect and lack of love towards God’s work since it is an act of murder. It doesn’t really matter at which point life begins scientifically, but for as long as there is conception, then that is already life. Genesis 2:7 talks about God breathing life into the nostrils for Adam to become a living being (Chance, 2012). This is a clear indication that there is no clear moment when human beings can state as the point that life begins.
Others try to use the same Bible to justify that a fetus that is still in the womb, doesn’t have much value. In other terms, life in the womb isn’t as sacred as Christianity believes.
