It is commonly believed that we should do everything to make others feel happy and satisfied. It is also said that the health and wellbeing of others are more important than one’s own health and wellbeing (How the World Starts Getting Better, 2018). However, I think that it is important for me to take care of myself before I could look after my family members or friends. If I am not healthy or have a medical problem, then it won’t be possible for me to provide the utmost care, love, support, and affection to the people I love. I have opted for a number of ways to ensure my physical and mental health.
First of all, I go to bed by 9:00 p.m. and wake up early in the morning. I have seen many people wasting their nights awake and then waking up late (Lom, 2010). However, I am an entirely different person. I know how important it is to sleep for 6 to 8 hours. I always ensure that I have enough time to sleep because this is what guarantees my health and wellbeing. It does not matter how much work I have to do when the clock ticks 9:00 p.m. I simply go to the bed, turn off the light and enjoy my sleep.
Another thing that I do is drinking a lot of water every day. Before breakfast, I always drink a glass of lemon juice. Throughout the day, I make sure that I have drunk at least 10 glasses of water. It has now been proved that by drinking sufficient water on a daily basis, we can have glowing skin, an active body, and a healthy brain. The powerful antioxidants found in red wine can protect us from heart diseases, colon cancer, depression, stress, and anxiety. Keeping this fact in mind, I drink a glass of red wine before or during my lunch.
As far as my diet is concerned, I never like the idea of eating a lot of junk foods. I have seen many people eating burgers, pizzas and French fries on a daily basis, but I love having fresh salad, yogurt, and simple food (Thornicroft & Patel, 2015). For example, in my breakfast, I eat one boiled egg and drink a cup of hot milk or green tea. Sometimes I also enjoy butter with toast, and in my lunch and dinner, I include fresh salad, yogurt, chicken, fish, fresh veggies and other health-friendly food items. I often drink a cup of hot water before having my lunch, as this helps me digest the food in a better way.
