The main point of the article is that the use of e-cigarettes contributes to the development of depression, especially among young adults. I agree with the message because a prior study on the same issue revealed that of those with depression, 9.1% were e-cigarettes users (Medical News Today, n.d.). Also, e-cigarettes release the same content as traditional cigarettes (nicotine) into the bloodstream and previous studies have revealed that there is a link between depression and cigarette smoking. As such, I agree with the findings of the study based on the fact that both types of cigarettes have a similar composition.
There is a problem with concluding that students who smoke will become more likely to develop depression. In the study, the researchers conducted a cross-sectional study and as such cannot infer causality (Fregni & Illigens, 2018).
