Academic discourse is perhaps one of the most interesting things in one’s academic life. It involves numerous contentious activities and massive efforts from different people with the collective goal of solving a particular issue or problem for the benefit of society. While my academic community experiences several different types of these “broadly agreed set of common public goals”, one of the most fascinating for me is the goal of understanding mental health. For most psychologists, understanding the origins, causes, and effects of different mental health issues is important in order to be able to provide effective standardized treatments for every patient.
