A normal behavior is defined as the trend in behavior observed among the general majority. A normal individual is the one who exhibits satisfactory work capacity and blends in with his or her surroundings. This could be either by the developing good relationship with other individuals in the same environment. Their reactions normally change to suit the different situations. Normal people are considered to be in full control of their emotions at all times. A huge population of individuals belongs to the normal group. Normal behavior could also be viewed to represent optimal development and average functioning of individuals leading to the wellness of a group. Therefore, individuals that have average intelligence, personality and adapt to their social environment are considered to be normal (Neimark, 2007).
Abnormality is defined as the exaggerations or perverted developments from the normal behavior. For one to know whether certain behavior is abnormal, they should first have to determine what the normal behavior is. It could also be defined as the behavior that does not fit the norm. Individuals that do not fit or adjust to their environment are regarded to exhibit abnormal behaviors. For example, it is normal for an individual to run when he or she faces danger. Abnormal behavior is considered to be maladaptive since it does not bring harm to the society, but could harm the individual. Abnormal behavior affects both the group and individual behaviors and could result to harm and group conflicts (Neimark, 2007).
Jamie, who is a single mom presents abnormal behavior in several instances. It is normal for her to be overwhelmed with work and school. Considering that she is a single mother and with great responsibility, it would be normal for her to feel tired. Her abnormality is depicted by her withdrawing from family and friends. Jamie’s thought of wanting to quit school to resume her normal activities is regarded an abnormal behavior. The first means of solving her problems come from family and friends. Friends and family are important during troubling times and she should bond with them so they could help provide moral support. The second option is by finding effective means to handle her finances. She is encouraged to have good budgeting and long-term investments. The third is trying to stick to daily routines which the children consider them to be normal....
