According to Reinke, Herman & Stormont (2013), article, "Classroom-level positive behavior supports in schools implementing SW-PBIS: Identifying areas for enhancement," the authors state that the feeling of pride and self-satisfaction may make students maintain good behavior and are likely to behave accordingly in class. It may seem simple how the teacher manages to educate children on the behavior they expect through positive reinforcement. Children will be determined to impress the teacher next time to maintain a good feeling (Reinke, Herman & Stormont, 2013).
Teachers acknowledge that discipline is important for the future development. Teachers would support discipline but from different perspective. Unlike others who assume that discipline is punishment, teachers advocate operant condition to promote positive reinforcement, which can be applied in any classroom environment to encourage good behavior among students. For example, when telling a story, children are required to stay quiet and listen, they can only raise up their hands when they want to make any meaningful contribution. If the children can manage to sit and behave as expected by the teacher the teacher can say for example " great effort Jane or well-done Chris." Students feel pleased with positive remarks and are proud of themselves after receiving a positive response from the teacher (Reinke, Herman & Stormont, 2013).
Teachers can build operant conditioning within their lesson and teach children good behavior. Teachers can use this type of reinforcement when teaching student new things apart from just behavior using praises. Teachers can use praises or positive reinforcements to cement the message they want to pass across to children.
