Understanding the relationship between psychological illnesses and the methods for treatment is important for any counsellor. It allows him to be able to create a good understanding of the approach that should be depending on the type of illnesses that the patient is going through. In this article, the author would like to create a treatment plan for a family who is undergoing the painful process of divorce. Initially, an overview of the family is presented for the case study. Subsequently, the different treatments that could be used for him to overcome such issues are also discussed.
Description of the Problem
The family in this case is comprised of four (4) individuals. The father (31 years old) is a native American who grew in the United States while the mother (28 years old) is a Filipino immigrant who has lived in the country for almost nine years. Although their two kids (1 son, 1 daughter) spent most of their time in the United States, they were born and raised in the Philippines before they went to high school. The mother does not have any other relatives in the country.
Finally, the main reason for their divorce was the alleged infidelity of the father. The wife said that he caught her husband seeing another woman, which is the reason for her filing of a divorce case against him. Aside from this instance, a closer observation of the family would show that both wife and husband are “dissatisfied” with their married life. Records also show that the mother had experienced several counts of depressive events. She was diagnosed with major depressive order only around two months before this case. The father, on the other hand, was treated for alcohol abuse for the past few months and is still undergoing rehabilitation currently. In line with this, there is a high probability that the depressive disorder and the alcoholism of the wife and the husband contributes greatly to their decision of filing a divorce.
Treatment Plan
Diagnosis
The treatment plan for the family is known as the Primary Treatment Plan and is completed within four (4) weeks of regular counselling. The first step is the diagnosis of the problem using a psychological evaluation of each of the member. Even though the primary focus of the treatment is the relationship between the husband and the wife, an evaluation of the children’s mental health is also important to determine whether they are at risks of any possible disorders due to the instance of the divorce.
Master List of Issues
In line with the treatment, the master list of the issues that the wife and husband might be suffering from includes; (1) depression, (2) substance abuse, (3) anxiety, (4) hopelessness, and (5) guilt. These issues are some of the most common causes and effects related to the couple’s marital issue CITATION Fau17 \l 1033 (Faust, Ko, Alexander, & Greenhawt, 2017). Although there is a high possibility that the divorce will still take place, the success criteria for th...
