William Tuke represents one of the earliest reformists of the 19th century with a significant impact on the clinical psychologic field. Kibria and Metcalfe (2016) indicate that he pioneered the realization of modern mental institutions of care that respect the patients’ moral treatment. His work in the mental asylum changed the approaches from the traditional inhumane and brutal ones to the use of progressive benevolent methods (Pomerantz, 2019). As a result, he remains one of the key influencers of modern clinical psychology.
