According to Elizabeth Mcingvale, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety problem in which people have feelings of restlessness and unwanted ideas, sensations or thoughts. These feelings and thoughts urge them to repeat certain activities, such as checking on Facebook or mobile messages, hand washing, cleaning the clothes and interfering with the daily activities of their friends.
Examples of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Obsession is a series of persistent thoughts, images or impulses that can lead to distressing emotions like disgust and anxiety (Mcingvale, 2017). One of its most common examples is when people try to ignore social activities. If someone remains concerned about a particular thing all the time, then he is likely to have an obsession. Typical obsessions are excessive concerns about harm or contamination, forbidden religious or sexual thoughts, and the need for exactness, perfection, and symmetry. Another daily life example is when someone keeps washing his hands and face for an uncertain period. Usually, we wash our hands and face once a while or before going outside, but if a person keeps washing his hands every two to five minutes, then he is likely to have an obsession of cleanliness, which is a matter of great concern.
Similarly, compulsion is a series of repetitive behaviors and uncertain mental act that drive a person to do strange activities (Mcingvale, 2017). The purpose of these behaviors is to prevent distress and reduce fear. For example, if an individual feels fear at night, he may go for a long walk or drive. The chance is that he will repeat this activity every night in order to get rid of fear...
