  Debriefing Name Institution Date Q: Describe two main reasons why debriefing is important for research studies.               Debriefing has been used in crisis intervention that has been developed to prevent traumatic stress or PTSD as one of the short psychological interventions (Gunasingam, et al., 2015). The systematic use of debriefing administered to specific individuals or groups of people is potentially effective in improving their wellbeing and especially when there is more than one session. Debriefing, a brief psychological intervention mostly carried out in the first days after the traumatic event, usually a group session where those exposed an exposure to the traumatic situation (Gunasingam, et al., 2015). The procedure is mostly carried out when there is a deception in experiments or studies have been completed with the researcher and subject, discussing issues of importance including reactions and feelings to an event.  There is a need to prioritize ethical conduct, considerations and enhancing the participant-researcher relation. Typically, in a study or debriefing session, there is an emphasis on revealing thoughts and feelings, and the intervention mostly in several phases. One of the first things to consider is for the moderator to clarify what the sessions entail. The interviewer also considers how the specific events affected the participants as they express their feelings freely.  There is a better understanding of how the event took place, the worst aspects of the experience and how the subject reacted either psychologically or physically. The ability to express feelings is crucial to the success of the debriefing process as the moderator or interviewer synthesizes the subject’s reactions to determine whether there is a need for further action. While investigations may use deception in experiments and investigations they may retain some information even when there is a consent.  For instance, investigators may only reveal certain aspects of the purpose of the specific procedures utilized. When the participants know about the procedures being performed they may modify their behavior potentially invalidating the results. As such, the participants are requested to consent and remain uniformed about the study procedures, and provided with this when the investigation, experiment or study is complete and the modified information is revealed. Sometimes requesting authorization to retain the information may compromise the validity of the investigation, and such information is revealed once the investigation is complete, but this requires the ethical evaluation committee to approve the investigation (McShane et al., 2015).  It may be necessary to deceive the subject deliberately, but this is more controversial than withholding information and lying to the participants which is also rare in research studies.
