The cognitive behavioral theory was advanced in the 1960s by Aron Beck. It is crucial to note that several studies have been conducted on this theory, ultimately establishing its efficacy in treating psychiatric conditions, including anxiety, substance abuse, depression, and eating disorders. Behavioral theory is founded on the assumption that a strong relationship exists between an individual’s emotions, cognitions, and behavioral tendencies. The central idea of the behavioral theory is based on the cognition process comprising underlying beliefs, cognitive distortions, and automatic thoughts (Chand et al., 2021). Automatic thoughts can be conceptualized as an individual’s immediate understanding of events that facilitate the shaping of their actions and emotions when responding to the life situations in question. In addition, the behavioral model assumes cognitive errors in logic exist, especially among patients with psychological conditions, which drives them to make mistakes in their judgment.
