Behavior analysts encounter a number of ethical concerns when providing services. No matter the situation, behavior analysts are charged with the responsibility of maintaining a high standard of professional behavior. The BACB has established guidelines for responsible conduct for behavior analysts.
The Introduction provides details on the scope and application of the Code, its core principles, and the considerations for ethical decision making. The core principles are the foundational concepts that guide all aspects of a behavior analyst's work. Behavior analysts should benefit others, treat others with compassion, dignity, and respect, behave with integrity, and ensure their own competence. Behavior analysts are also expected to be knowledgeable about and comply with the Code and Code-enforcement procedures.
Code 1.0, and its subsections, provides detailed guidelines regarding your responsibilities as a behavior analyst to the profession of applied behavior analysis. Reliance on scientific knowledge, competence, multiple relationships, and exploitative relationships are discussed in terms of your ethical conduct.
