It is in the human nature to fight for power. Power gives a distinguished authority to rule and control others. Over the world, terrorism takes place, not as an act geared at enjoying the activity but to obtain recognition and power. Islamic states and Islam affiliated individuals and groups have solemnly been identified with acts of violence, wars, and global insecurity concerns. The Muslim radical groups have a state to which they honor tribute and faithfulness. Thus, making it an Islamic state (caliphate) with a territory, tanks, armies and a national kind of structure with populations. Majority of Islamic state members are from the Middle East countries. With the widespread of terror attacks and global security concerns drawn from the expansion of the Islamic state, this paper aims at discussing how the Islahow Islamic state uses power.
Like any other country with a government running its operation, the Islamic state is well organized. It has a source of income, a hope to rule the world, a sanctuary and acts as an inspirational source to its followers CITATION Ant16 \l 1033 (Chibarirwe, 2016). Iraq, Syria and most of the Middle East countries are the strongholds of the Islamic state. To maintain its relevance, the Islamic state maximizes the power of the mind and ideology. Most of its members come from various places across the world. However, they pay tribute to their organization in their local communities by committing violence as directed by their leaders. Chibarirwe narrates, “You can bomb the organization, but can you bomb its ideology?” The resilience of ideology utilized by the Islamic state enhances the expansion of its terror campaigns across the globe.
The continual expansion of the state’s global network makes it a potentially dangerous and powerful group than the al-Qaeda. The group uses influence and wealth to attract many followers especially from the poor regions that are easy to radicalize on religious grounds. Moreover, the group has a financial endowment, political affiliations and religious support from several countries. Considering the many people involved, the Islamic state can perform any attack through its followers wherever they feel is suitable. Despite the global nature of the group, all followers heed to one authority. Unfortunately, many state leaders tend to push for their own interests that conflict with other leaders and people creating a divided country. Thus, the unity towards one course under the Islamic state enables them to effectively utilize their power under the vulnerability of the West and other countries. For instance, Rex Tillerson, a secretary of State pushes for a line on Russia and Korea but a negative tweet from the President undermines him (The World, 2018). Competing power centers in countries give ISIS an upper hand in conquering them.
