Descriptive Statistics Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Descriptive Statistics USA’s prominent newspaper; New York Times’ September 9 2019 article on Amazon delineates that the company’s centre on Staten Island, NY raised its workers’ minimum hourly wage to $15. The company listed a total of 30,000 job vacancies in the country both full-time and part-time in its headquarters, tech hubs and fulfilment centres. The previous year's were mainly permanent with no inclusion of hourly ones while the current ones include such with over 50% being tech-oriented. In comparison to other years too, Amazon records that this year has the most vacant positions. As an advantage, the 3.7% unemployment rate in the USA is expected to significantly go down despite the current trade wars and lagging worldwide economy. Towards the end of June, Amazon’s employees totalled to 653,300 with exclusion of non-permanent ones and contractors. The shadow contractors include drivers delivering packages and customer care representatives that assist in marketplace. Those interested in the positions whether semi-learned or learned, are all covered in the hourly-waged jobs. The increment in its warehouses occurred last fall when the firm laid out plans to retrain 33.33% of its workers into higher paid jobs with a $700 million budget. Moreover, the 30,000 new vacant positions do not herald even one new investment unlike in 2017 when the company announced its search for a second headquarter. The new home would lead to 50,000 jobs creation. Earlier on, Amazon was split in choosing between New York City and Arlington situated in the suburbs of NYC. However, the company dropped NYC because half of the jobs would go into the city and spread to other minor hubs including the NY.
