MANOVA is an extension of ANOVA data analysis that compares the multivariate sample means. It is applied in research where the number of dependent variables is two or more. It is common in modern research, such as in Alotaibi’s (2017) study ‘Rural, Urban, and Small Town/Suburban Parents’ Satisfaction Toward Special Education Services for Young Children with Disabilities in Northwest Ohio.’ The test was appropriately applied to achieve the study objectives. 
Why did the authors select MANOVA in the research?
The authors selected MANOVA in this research as it would help them in achieving the study objective, and it was the most appropriate depending on the data collected analyzed, and the variables involved in the research. The purpose of the study was to assess the satisfaction of parents with the special educational services offered in schools. The researchers aimed at achieving this by establishing the differences in the levels of satisfaction among parents in urban, rural, and suburban and small towns. In this case, MANOVA was used to compare the multivariate sample mean and then describe the differences identified among the parents towards the special educational services that were offered to their children. Further, the MANOVA test was chosen because the researcher also wanted to establish how parental satisfaction was related to various factors; communication between the parents and the professionals offering special education services, satisfaction of the parents with the learning environment, and satisfaction of the parents with the processes involved in the provision of the special education services and integration of family characteristics. Therefore, the analysis of these variables could only be achieved effectively through a MANOVA test.
