Waiting Lines and Service Systems Author Name Institution Affiliation One of the core aspects of the waiting line model is that product manufacturers can easily and efficiently buffer their manufacturing processes from clients with the use of inventories (Lambert & Lee, 2008). In fact, a significant category of inventory is known as a buffer. Secondly, in a pure service system, where customers receive direct services from the service provider, the customers are considered in the boundary of the service provider. In such a situation, the demand for the service may exceed the capacity, and thus, one or more waiting lines will be formed. Another idea is that customers will leave the system un-served. Waiting line systems have costs, management response strategies and operating characteristics. The costs are of two types: the cost of waiting and the cost of service. According to Alinda Kokkinou and David A. Cranage, the queuing theory is the mathematical study of queues or waiting lines. The queuing model helps to predict the waiting time and the length of the queue (Kokkinou & Cranage, 2015). Its core aspect is that the results obtained through research are frequently used to make wise business decisions regarding the resources needed to provide certain services. Another idea is to use the queuing theory in fields like engineering, telecommunications, and information technology.
