The performance and productivity of a team is largely dependent on its leader. This understanding has led to the creation of the popular adage that everything rises and falls on leadership. There are various leadership styles and each person has their own and this explains why some teams succeed while others fail.
When I was in high school I witnessed firsthand how leadership can fail a team. For a long time, our school had one of the best science clubs in the entire state. For a long time, the leaders employed a democratic leadership style something that made the group to flourish. This leadership style made everyone to feel valued and as such they were happy to offer their suggestions something that made the team to be highly successful (Martin, 2015).
