Royal Bank of Canada faces a class-action lawsuit. It stands to lose millions of dollars should the case's outcome be in favor of the plaintiff. The Bank allegedly failed to compensate somewhat vacation grants to the plaintiff (Durrani, 2021). According to Canadian law, workers have a right to vacation two weeks after five uninterrupted years of working with the same organization—the vacation increases to three weeks. Vacation consent after ten years is four weeks (Fakih, 2009).
Upon discontinuation from working, the worker has a right to be paid for any unused vacation pay. Vacation pay is mandatory in Canada. It is upon this basis that the plaintiff has grounds for the lawsuit. She claims compensation is inclusive of vacation pay and statutory holiday payment.
