Honesty is one of the key traits of an effective leader. A study by Bakhsh, Rasool, and Azim (2019) examined how honesty and humor orientation are associated with leadership effectiveness. The results of the study showed that both variables are integral to effective leadership. Therefore, honesty is considered an important trait for a good leader because it contributes to their effectiveness. This sentiment is agreed upon by Hassan, Mahsud, Yukl, and Prussia (2013) who note that honesty, alongside trustworthiness and integrity are significant predictors of leadership effectiveness. It is deducible that when an honest person is trusted with a leadership position, they are bound to be successful in it.
Honesty is also an important trait because it is associated with ethical leadership.
