By definition, reverse logistics consist of all the operations directly linked to the reuse of materials and products. The process involves the movement of materials from their original destination for the purposes of disposing of them properly or for capturing value. This process runs from planning, controlling and implementing measures that are cost-effective and efficient on all the raw materials to ensure profits or to outdo the losses (Robinson, 2014). Other processes that can be involved include refurbishing and remanufacturing.
FedEx understands the importance of customer returns. It says that it handles the returns of the customers to ensure that the customers return to the business. Creating a return experience that is positive to the customers consequently affects the business positively by creating a competitive advantage. To manage the customer returns, FedEx has a got a portfolio called FedEx® return solutions. Through this portfolio, the company can leverage easily the same reliability, speed, convenience, and visibility that can be enjoyed by all the customers.
Being in this e-commerce game, FedEx understands that returns are inevitable and thus created some shipping services that can help manage the customers' returns efficiently to offer a wholesome experience for its customers. The FedEx Print Return Label is a service that enables one to create and print the return label to their customer with the company. They include the label to either the original shipment or to a separate correspondence. The company does not charge on this (Hyland, 2015).
The FedEx Email Return Label allows one to email the label to the customers directly. The customer can then access the label and print it. The FedEx Express® Billable Stamps replaces the airbills. It allows a convenient way of printing the information of the recipient on the stamp. There are no charges. The FedEx Express Prepaid Stamps lets the customers take control of their costs of return. The customer can easily locate the shipping cost and then select the preferred service delivery. The FedEx Ground Package Return Program is a program that makes the return process simpler (Hyland, 2015). One can send their customer the return label. The customer can then schedule with the company on the Pickup, and there is no pickup fee.
The FedEx Express Tag is where the company creates the shipping return labels and delivers them to the customers. It then collects the item to be returned. The pickup of the return express can then be scheduled. The FedEx Ground Call Tag is another customer return service. Through this option, the company creates the return labels and then delivers them to the appropriate recipients. The item to be returned is then picked up on the Ground Return Pickup (Hyland, 2015).
